Elementary, Middle and High School Age
Children and young adults are very quick to learn and pick up music. By starting young, students have time to develop skills on the guitar that will give them a lifetime of enjoyment. Starting a new guitar player is one of my greatest joys as a guitar teacher. Over the years, I have developed curriculums to match the individual needs of my beginner students. Essentially, we learn how to play the guitar by making music together- through songs. Starting with single-string playing, we then progress to playing chords while we sing together. To help us follow and remember the music we are learning, we learn how to read common guitar notation systems such as tablature, chord diagrams, and standard musical notation. It is always my goal during every lesson to make music with my students- which is one of the true joys of playing an instrument- making music with others!
